The program at StoneyBrook Childrens Center is designed to provide each child - whether an infant, toddler, preschool or school-age child - with a secure and nuturing environment. Such an environment encourages social, intellectual, emotional and physical development.
Our curriculum provides the necessary balance between child centered activities planned by the teacher and supervised free play initiated by the child. All activities are designed to assist children in integrating information through direct experience. Children are encouraged to explore their world. Their curiosities and horizons are expanded through exposure to a variety of stimulating experiences and materials. our teachers help children learn the limits of their behavior and to develop their interpersonal and group skills.
Confidence in their abilities and level of competence is encouraged and enhanced through their interaction with other individuals, their group and their teachers.
The thoughtfully designed environment at StoneyBrook Childrens Center helps children realize the following goals:
- Feeling of self-worth
- The discovery of their world and it's relationship to the world of others
- The ability to communicate verbally and in play with other children and adults
- The ability to express themselves in their own unique way through art, dance, music and play
- The healthy development of a variety of motor skills
Children may be aided in the achievement of other specific goals as identified by parents and teachers, as well.
We believe this approach assures that emphasis will remain where it belongs - on themselves.
